Building Update: As you can see the rebuilding is well underway. The new flooring in the classrooms should be completed this week. Some of our cabinets have started to arrive, and will be installed soon. Once the cabinets are set in place the plumbers will return to complete the installation of the sinks, toilets, and finish heating repairs. In some of these images you will see boxes full of the items that we were able to salvage - these will have to be sorted and put away.
The gymnasium is still in need of a significant amount of work. The contaminants from the gym floor have seeped into the concrete. The test results have come back, and we are currently awaiting word from the engineer regarding the next steps. More to come.

BEHAVIORAL THREAT ASSESSMENT

On Wednesday, October 26, we hosted our 2nd Annual Pizza & Pumpkin Carving Night for OES families. Families were able to enjoy an evening carving and/or painting pumpkins, making apple cider and enjoying some pizza.
We are so thankful for the following people who help make this night a success: Travis Terrell for cooking pizza pies; Madison Tinker, Aaliyah Grady, Thayer Meyers and Aiden Powell for gutting pumpkins; Green Mountain Farm to School for the cider press and the Village Office for allowing use of the municipal building while our gym is under construction.

What a season! Our Owls ended the season with a 9-2-1 record. With the youngest team in the district needing 5th graders to fill the field, we are so proud of their hard work and dedication. The final game was a tough loss vs Coventry under the lights. Even though they fell 1-3, they played hard the entire game. We want to extend a HUGE thank you to Coach Brad Phillips for his commitment to Orleans and our greater community's soccer programming.

The Vermont Agency of Education announced in a recent press release the next phase of the 2024 Listen and Learn Tour and invites the public to participate in community conversations to inform how the Agency delivers services and supports to Vermont’s education system.
These public engagement sessions will help the Agency develop its strategic plan and ensure that its work is supporting the educational priorities of communities across Vermont. Following a series of data reports and regional planning sessions with more than 250 education leaders, the Agency is eager to expand these conversations to include educators, parents, students, and community members across the state. Good afternoon,
Last week we reached out to you to let you know that we will be using a new grading and reporting system this year in our EMS schools called "SmartScore." Now that you've had some time to review the information we provided and register for your parent/guardian account in SmartScore, we wanted to follow up with some additional resources to help you navigate the SmartScore system.
Two walkthrough videos are available at the link below. These videos show you how to interpret the scores you'll see on your student's learning snapshot, how to look at feedback from each of your student's courses, and how to view specific feedback on individual assignments. In addition, the informational handouts we sent previously are available on this webpage as well.

As always, please reach out if you have any questions or if you need additional help. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we transition to this new tool.

This year the Lake Region Union High School Girls Soccer program is partnering with the American Cancer Society to raise over $2,500 to support our community-members in Vermont battling cancer. The money they raise will be going to support the Hope Lodge in Burlington. Established in 1983, Hope Lodge is a program that provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers, and currently maintains 17 guest rooms located near cancer centers in Vermont.
They are asking that every member of our community donate $1 next week to their campaign. Orleans will have a collection jar in the office or donations can be made online: https://secure.acsevents.org/site/STR?fr_id=109161&pg=team&team_id=2765051
According to the National Cancer Institute, roughly two million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer this year, and 40% of Vermonters will develop cancer in their lifetime. Let's work together to help make this battle a little easier for our neighbors.
Thanks for your consideration,
-Mary Farnsworth and LRUHS Girls Soccer Program

Good afternoon,
In an effort to improve our schools' communication with students and their caregivers, the EMS district schools have adopted a new grading and reporting system called SmartScore. This system has many helpful tools and features that will hopefully make feedback more clear, accurate, and helpful for students. We hope that it will also make students' growth and progress easier for families to see and understand as well. Please review the attached document that provides an overview of the new system and provides you with login information so you can sign in and see how your student is doing. Teachers are working on putting student work into the new system right now, so please be patient as the transition takes place and we get everything up and running.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have. Thank you for your support of our schools!

Let us know about a time where a staff member was EXTRAORDINARILY AWESOME.
Every day our OES staff goes above and beyond, and does incredible things, for our students. We want to recognize what they do! When you see an OES staff person doing great work in or outside the classroom, please give them a shout-out here. You can do this anonymously if you wish. These shout-outs may be shared with our staff via email and faculty meetings. Any OES teacher or staff member can be nominated.
