Theresa Peura, the library media specialist for Barton and Glover Schools, makes a meaningful impact on our school communities in many ways. Most recently, she has played a key role in planning the Book Blast, a school-based fundraising and literacy program designed to promote reading both at home and at school.
She collaborates closely with teachers to ensure they have the resources they need to support student learning. Theresa is always responsive, flexible, and attentive to the needs of our students and community. As a member of our PIP (Partnership in Pride) committee, she actively seeks opportunities to strengthen school culture and community. She is also a supportive colleague to other library media specialists across the district. Thank you Theresa for everything you do.

Our March Madness Oreo Tournament has officially wrapped up, and what a sweet showdown it was! Each day, two Oreo flavors went head-to-head as students cast their votes, cheering on their favorites all the way to the final round.
After fierce (and delicious!) competition, Toffee Crunch rose to the top as our ultimate cookie champion! 🏆
But this tournament was about more than just cookies—students were busy behind the scenes collecting and analyzing data, creating graphs, comparing fractions, and interpreting results. It was a fun and engaging way to bring real-world math skills to life! 📊
And the learning didn’t stop there! Our 4B students connected the Oreo March Madness to their writing unit by crafting formal letters to the Oreo company—sharing feedback on flavors and even suggesting creative new ones. ✍️🍪
Who knew learning could be this sweet? 🍫

A special thank you to Stephanie and Danielle for organizing our 2v2 basketball tournament—it was a great success and a wonderful event for our community. Funds raised will go toward our new scoreboard.
Thank you as well to Linsay McCargar and Sierra Martin for attending in support of our 8th grade students’ fundraiser, and a shout-out to Scott Whittemore, Dana Jacobs, and Megan Stevens for participating in the tournament to support the cause.

To help set them up for success, we’ve created special testing kits filled with motivational stickers, gum, mints, snacks, pencils, and fidgets—everything they might need for a little extra boost of confidence and focus. ✨
We’re proud of the hard work our students put in every day, and we hope these kits remind them just how capable they are. You’ve got this! 💛

A huge THANK YOU to Siskin-Coutts for hosting our Kindergarten and 1st grade students for an unforgettable day of outdoor exploration! From building fires in the woods to climbing the rock wall and discovering all that nature has to offer, our students were fully immersed in hands-on learning and fun.
The smiles, teamwork, and excitement said it all—these are the kinds of experiences that spark curiosity and confidence in our youngest learners! We are so grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to come back for more adventures. 💚🌿

🎶 March is National Music In Our Schools Month! 🎶
At Barton, we’re turning up the excitement with March Music Madness! 🎤🎵
All month long, students are listening, singing, and voting for their favorite songs from our fantastic music curriculum, Musicplayonline.com. It’s been so much fun seeing their enthusiasm as they cheer on their top picks and as the recognize songs from the grade they were in last year!
Be sure to ask your child about their favorite songs from music class—I bet they’ll be happy to give you a mini concert at home! 🎶✨

Our students have selected their favorite Oreo flavors, and we will be hosting a fun “March Madness Oreo Tournament” beginning March 10th. Each day, two flavors will compete head-to-head, and students will cast their votes to select their favorite. As the month goes on, the competition will narrow down until we crown the final superior cookie at the end of March! Students will collect and analyze data, create graphs, compare fractions, and interpret results as the tournament progresses. It’s a fun (and delicious!) way to apply real-world math skills.

Our "Recorder Monster" curriculum is aligned with National Core Arts Standards and is fun and motivating for students. Throughout our recorder unit, students will earn "monster cards" for each song they master. The students are looking forward to collecting them all, but for now, we've all earned "Dixie" for mastering "Hot Cross Buns!"

So far, most mushers have traveled around 425 miles, while others are close behind at about 352 miles. Even with those impressive distances already behind them, the race is far from over—nearly two-thirds of the challenging journey still remains. The trail ahead will test both mushers and their dogs as they continue across Alaska’s rugged terrain, facing long distances, changing weather, and very little sleep.
Our students are enjoying tracking the race in real time and learning just how much determination, teamwork, and endurance it takes to complete one of the world’s most famous sled dog races. They’ll be watching closely to see how their mushers move up the leaderboard in the days ahead! 🐕❄️🏁
